MP3s back...Posted By: Shagz The DJ mixes are back up, at least for a little while, thanks to some mirroring from Kraniac. Also, a new batch of Coffee (as in, A Cup of Coffee) is on the way so those of you who have been waiting for copies of the mix, you'll be sorted out soon! Additionally, I've have a new breakbeat mix that's waiting to go out. Unfortunately, this whole bandwidth thing has been a problem, as well as waiting for CD cases to come in and trying to come up with a title for the new mix, but we hope to sort that out real soon.
MP3's down again...Posted By: Shagz Sorry, but I've had to take the mp3s, at least the main ones, down again. The samplers may follow as well. It's not even the middle of the month and I've already moved 10GB of data off this site. On one hand it's great! People are digging the tunes and downloading stuff. But it's bad because I gotta pay for the bandwidth overages. :P But you can help! If you have access to a web server and don't mind hosting an mp3 or two to help me out, contact me and we'll sort something out. Gotta go...I'm at Flash in the Can today and I'm missing the next presentation...on music, ironically. :)
Mp3 MixesPosted By: Shagz The mp3 mixes will be coming back soon. It's a new month and my bandwidth has reset so we can start downloading again. (That's the last time I put out 3 mixes all at the same time!) We'll see how much you guys download this time around. :) If I get into trouble again, I'll probably have to look into some alternative hosting for the mp3 files or something, 'cuz it's starting to get a little expensive. We shall see... In other news, my brand new demo mix is in the can, but I don't have a title for it yet. Originally I was going to release a double mix CD with one disc being funky house 'n breaks while the other was going to be techier, colder stuff. But the mix I just did is all techy breaks, no house, so it doesn't make so much sense anymore. I will have to ponder this during my commute... And for people still waiting for a copy of A Cup of Coffee: again, sorry for the delays. Just been trying to sort some stuff out financially and technically before I can get back to making some more copies, so sit tight. Thanks for your patience! C'est ca, for now...
Freshwind...Posted By: Shagz So I had a gig this weekend, Good Friday of all nights, but it's cool 'cuz it was another church sponsored event. :) The same DJ who organized the Zeo NYE party (J Puddy) brought me in again for the Freshwind conference his church was holding this weekend. Honestly, I was expecting the same kind of thing like the NYE party, which was kind of small and ended too early. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the main hall and saw 2,500 people!!! Seriously banging sound system and a quality lighting rig...this was definitely a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. The only bad thing was the carpeted floor - great for sitting on but no good for dancing. We sorta got started at 11:30pm after some speakers and this great dance troupe performed, or at least we would have gotten started if it weren't for some technical issues - no signal at first, and then we were only getting one channel. No good. Some MCs kept the crowd busy with some quality freestyling while we tried to sort it out but we eventually gave up and just went with it. Didn't seem to matter on that system, even with one channel it sounded LOUD, and I left my ear plugs at home. :( Things were still rough at first - didn't get the monitors working until my second or third track - but the crowd was crazy with energy that night so they didn't seem to mind. My initial plan was to start off sorta slow but these kids were just raring to go so after setting the mood I just tore the lid off and started playing the full-on club anthems. Fantastic gig, fantastic crowd...last time I played for a crowd that big was the Crystal Method show, but unfortunately I was stuck off to the side and on the floor so I couldn't really see the people and see how they were reacting to the performance. It was really awesome to be up above people and see the masses jumping, smiling and just having a rocking good time, just being able to interact and react to them instantaneously was fantastic. One surprise though: I really expected to get more reaction out of the crowd when I played The Winston's version of Amen, but maybe I was expecting too much. If you were there, thanks for dancing so much and giving off such positive vibes! I hope you had a great time!
New mix in progress...Posted By: Shagz Yea, what can I say. I guess I can't sit still. Fleshed out the tracklist on a new mix I'm working on today and just now finished a first rough take. This is a heavy breaks affair with lots of banging goodies plus some homebrew mash up madness. My muse was rather quiet the last couple of days when I was trying to work this puppy out, but what a difference a couple of different tracks (and a good night's sleep) make when you swap 'em in. If you liked the Gig List Kill the Winter Blues mix, then you'll definitely dig this. :) (And if you don't know what I'm talking about, then you should be signed up on the mailing list, foo!) When can we expect a release...well, I plan to release this one both as a CD and as a downloadble mix. I haven't decided yet, but I think I'm going to release the CD first then the downloadable version at a later date, just depends on how my bandwidth situation turns out next month. :P That is all for now... PS - Anybody else see Jon Horvath (of the Fort Knox Five) spin at The 360 saturday night? Good golly, that guy plays the funkiest music for someone who looks so nerdy. :) But what am I saying - I look nerdy!
