Freshwind...

So I had a gig this weekend, Good Friday of all nights, but it's cool 'cuz it was another church sponsored event. :) The same DJ who organized the Zeo NYE party (J Puddy) brought me in again for the Freshwind conference his church was holding this weekend.

Honestly, I was expecting the same kind of thing like the NYE party, which was kind of small and ended too early. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the main hall and saw 2,500 people!!! Seriously banging sound system and a quality lighting rig...this was definitely a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. The only bad thing was the carpeted floor - great for sitting on but no good for dancing.

We sorta got started at 11:30pm after some speakers and this great dance troupe performed, or at least we would have gotten started if it weren't for some technical issues - no signal at first, and then we were only getting one channel. No good. Some MCs kept the crowd busy with some quality freestyling while we tried to sort it out but we eventually gave up and just went with it. Didn't seem to matter on that system, even with one channel it sounded LOUD, and I left my ear plugs at home. :( Things were still rough at first - didn't get the monitors working until my second or third track - but the crowd was crazy with energy that night so they didn't seem to mind. My initial plan was to start off sorta slow but these kids were just raring to go so after setting the mood I just tore the lid off and started playing the full-on club anthems.

Fantastic gig, fantastic crowd...last time I played for a crowd that big was the Crystal Method show, but unfortunately I was stuck off to the side and on the floor so I couldn't really see the people and see how they were reacting to the performance. It was really awesome to be up above people and see the masses jumping, smiling and just having a rocking good time, just being able to interact and react to them instantaneously was fantastic.

One surprise though: I really expected to get more reaction out of the crowd when I played The Winston's version of Amen, but maybe I was expecting too much.

If you were there, thanks for dancing so much and giving off such positive vibes! I hope you had a great time!
