Support the Fight against Breast Cancer!Posted By: Shagz
Some friends and I have put together a fundraiser to help raise money for breast cancer research, specifically for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer walk in September. All proceeds from the party will go towards the Weekend fund and in turn, to the Princess Margaret Hospital, one of the leaders in breast cancer research and patient care. It's very simple really: Your $5 donation (or more) gets you into a party featuring some dope beats provided by Dynamite Chris, DJ Circe and myself (expect everything from disco-rock to drum 'n bass), an art auction of exciting works from GTA artists, "boobie" themed drinks and baked goods, and plenty more. Let me break it down on an arithmatic tip: good cause + good beats = good times! So come out next weekend to the Victory Cafe, 581 Markham (Bloor and Bathurst) in Toronto to support a good cause and get one last party in before the summer is over! What: Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser See you there!
Advanced Warning: Fundraiser Party coming up!Posted By: Shagz Just a quick post to make sure all of you GTA locals keep the Aug 27th evening free as me and some peeps are throwing a fundraiser for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer that evening at Victory Cafe. Details are still being finalized, so watch this for more later this week.
New mixes, new stuff...Posted By: Shagz If you've been checking the DJ mixes page, you'll have seen the two new mixes that popped up in there, Push the Button Vol 3 and Stay Loose!!. PTB3 was the one that busted my server and broke the bank back in May, and Stay Loose!! is a brand new mix in a brand new style, though it comes from the same family line as the Car Tape series. Stay Loose!! was comissioned by my friend Deep for his June Party, and basically it's 25% tunes that I think fit his personality and 75% creative ideas and musical juxtapositions that I've been wanting to try out for a while now. PTB3 will eventually be released as a downloadable mix, complete with downloadable album art for putting together in your own CD sleeve, but Stay Loose!! will remain a CD release only. In other news, Cup of Coffee fans rejoice! I have more materials coming in soon for making new copies of that mix. I know some of you have been waiting quite a long time for your copy, so I'll get it out to guys as soon as they're ready. Sorry for the long wait! So I'm finally in the city, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I will have to write about the experiences I've had and the things I've noticed since moving down here some time, it's been an interesting shift. But I've been so busy, I haven't really had time to enjoy it just yet, but that's improving. And my wrist is healing, thanks for asking. It makes djing a little tricky but I've had a gig and produce a dj mix with this thing on, so I'm making do. Still, I need to lay off of it - I think I'm pushing it too much, lifting things that I think are ok but actually really bad for me. Let's hope my stupidity isn't the end of me and all that milk I drank as a kid pays off.
Out of commish for a while...Posted By: Shagz I just moved into the great city of Toronto, and I'm still sorting things out, both physical (editing my posessions, trying to find ways to arrange my gear in the new space) and emotionally (far from some friends, close to others), and to top it all off I've got issues with my wrist: it's in a cast! I had a roller blade accident about two months ago and my injuries were not properly diagnosed. Finally got an x-ray on Friday and it turns out that it wasn't "just nothing" but I actually have a scaphoid fracture (scaphoid being one of the many bones that make up your wrist). Canada's heralded health care system is kind of giving me the run around at the moment and I'm making noise so I don't fall through the cracks. Anyways, things will be quiet for a while until I can all this junk off my shoulders and can relax in my new place for a few days and enjoy the summer weather a little more. Lates...
Out of Comission...againPosted By: Shagz Sorry folks, I had to take the site down the last few days 'cuz of bandwidth overages yet again this month. (I thought I was being smart this time - I only put my brand new mix on a single bulletin board, didn't even announce it on my own site, but I got hammered by some over-eager podcasters from Germany and Russia) This has become a bit of a serious issue for me as I can't afford to spend $$$ on the extra bandwidth. All the attention is great, I'm glad you're digging the tunes! (Go and support the artists that are featured in those mixes!) But I'm going to have to investigate some other solutions for sharing my mixes online. This will probably mean a combination of some of the following:
So there we go...we'll see how this plays out. PS - Yea, I brought the rest of the site up because I was already over the bandwidth limit, and I get charged by the gig. I thought by minimizing the site footprint I might be able to slip in under my limit, but alas, too little, too late. So we're back to normal here again, sorta.
