Top 10 updated...

Updated the Top Ten today for the first time in a few months. I've been so busy with things that I haven't been able to pick up a lot of new music for a while now, so while the list isn't exactly the "freshest", it's still definitely one of the "dopest". :)

A number of funk nuggets in there that I've pulled from various compilations I've picked up; a beautiful, genius mash up of Stand By Me and Apache called Apache King (secret dance floor weapon #1!); a taste of the season in Ohmega Watts' remix of Charles Brown's I'll Be Home For Christmas; my man of the hour, Parov Stelar, doing his chill out thing with Warm Inside (track of the year for me, I think); soul satisfying philly-house from Ron Hall; and a pair of older chill out/down tempo tracks from Switchstance label mates Kabanjak and Protassov. Enjoy!

The choir that I started singing in this year is having a christmas concert on Sat, Dec 16th. Titled A Global Christmas, we'll be singing a variety of tunes originating from all over the world! (Canada, Finland, Spain, Africa and more) Refreshments (cookies! cider!) will be served post-show in the church basement and there may be a carol sing-a-long or two to get you in the spirit. :) All the details here.

Still here...

I know things have been a little quiet as of late here at Shagz Tower's, but things outside of djing have been keep me busy.

However...that doesn't mean I haven't been working! I'm hoping to finish mastering my mix tonight for Disc 2 of the (untitled) 25th DJ Shagz release. I'm pretty exicted about the mix, although it didn't quite come out perfect. It clocks in at just 64 mins (Disc 1 is 77 mins by comparison) and I probably could have fit another song or two into the mix. In fact, I can think of two serious omissions from the final version, but....the final mix, it turned out so...right!! :) I can't go back and re-do it, I'm going to let it stand and you guys can judge for yourselves whether I was right or wrong.

FYI, between Disc One and Two, I've covered about 13 years of musical history, cruising through House, Trance, Breaks and Drum 'n Bass tracks of all kinds.

Next I just need to make time to work on the cover art...soon, very soon...

Non-DJ Performance: Mozart's Requiem w/ All the King's Voices

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

I was a little hesitant to post this on my website as it isn't really DJ related, but I figured everybody likes music and there might be those of you who actually like classical music too.

This upcoming Saturday, Nov 11th, I'll be singing with the All the King's Voices choir. We're doing a special Remembrance Day/Mozart's Birthday concert, performing Mozart's Requiem.

The show is at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 78 Clifton Road in Toronto. (5 mins from St. Clair/Yonge subway station) $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors. All pertinent info, directions, map, etc. can be found here.

If you like classical choir music, then come check out the show. There's 50+ members in the choir and we're playing with a ~20 piece orchestra. We had a dress rehersal last night and it sounds awesome. (IMO) :)

Pimps, Players and Private Eyes

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

Next week, join me at The Rivoli with funkers Methodology, KC Roberts and The Raw Blue as we take you back to the 70's and kick off your Halloween early on the blaxploitation tip.

When: Oct 26th, doors @9pm
Where: The Rivoli, 331 Queen St W, Toronto, ON
What: "Pimps, Players and Private Eyes": Methodology's Funkin' Halloween Bash
Cover: $10
Costumes?: But of course!

Always a good show with the boys from Methodology, but should be an interesting show for me as I'll be taking my Serato system for a "spin". (ha ha)

Speaking of which, I'm going to try and post something about Serato tomorrow, if I have time.
