New DJ Mix: Melancoholic Vol 2

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

Been a while since I've posted anything to the site, mostly 'cuz I've been busy with real life, work and all the festivals and concerts that blow through Toronto every summer.

But...just 'cuz I've been busy doesn't mean I haven't been at work! For your listening pleasure, I present to you Melancoholic Vol 2, a journey through moody tech- and prog-sounds to the sunny side of vocal house. Not quite the same as its predecessor in sound and texture, but it came from the same source.

Get it or stream it and let me know what you think!

  2. Gavin Froome - Sunsets - Nordic Trax

Dropping beats at the Blue Moon...UPDATED: Gig is cancelled!

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

UPDATE: The Blue Moon gig tonight has been *cancelled*. Sorry for the inconvenience!

If you're looking for something to do tomorrow night and you find yourself in the east end, then be sure to come by the The Blue Moon at Queen E. and Broadview.

I'll be dropping beats at The Blue Moon (725 Queen St. E) for Eastenders, a weekly electro night that's just getting started up. I'll be backing up resident DJ Constance and friends by playing my own definition of the electro sound, mixing the dirty distorted basslines with more traditional Tech Breaks and House elements.

I've been pulling together electro influenced tracks for the past several months and now I've got a place to drop them and some of the newest tech breaks in my crate from the likes of the Plump DJs, Elite Force and Rouge Element. Should be fun!

So that's:
Eastenders @ Blue Moon
725 Queen St. E (Queen and Broadview)
Tomorrow night, Mon, May 26th
9pm onwards

Hope to see you there!

Sorry for the delay in getting this done, I was quite a bit busy over the last couple of weeks. I know you've all been chomping at the bit to find out who the winner of the DJ Shagz Box Set awesomeness would be!

So! I just want to congratulate Danielle of North Carolina (Grand Prize), Reinier of Toronto (Second Prize) and Ryan of Oklahoma (Third Prize)! You guys are the winners! I'll be contacting you soon to get your mailing addresses and such.

I want to thank everybody who mailed in with their submissions and sent me their thoughts on their favourite mixes and stories. Funny enough, the out and out favourite was Melancoholic.

If you haven't heard it before, you can grab it here.

Thanks again everybody for your continued support!

Playing with the Past CONTACT Show @ Linux Cafe

Posted By: Shagz
Date:

Just a heads up, I'll be spinning chilled out this Friday at the Linux Cafe, 326 Harbourd St, Toronto, as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival. Local Toronto photographer Andrew Drown will be showing off his work with abandoned playgrounds in the Toronto Area. Show details here.

The show opening should get going around 7pm and go until 11-ish. The photos will be up for the length of the festival, so even if you miss the opener, you can hit the Cafe, grab a cup of organic joe, connect to the free wireless and enjoy the photographs.

Hope to see you there!

Digital DJing on the Cheap: Soundcards

Another cool article from the peeps at Remix Magazine, this time talking about buying the right sound card.

I used to have a subscription to this magazine way way back, but I never got around to reading any of the issues. The mailing list has proven to be an excellent source of cool stuff though, when I make the time to catch up on it.
