ControllerismPosted By: Shagz DJTechTools.com is quickly becoming one of my favourite websites. I've been wanting to get into "controllerism" for awhile. This vid makes me feel like I better step it up!
They'll put a TB-303 on anything these days...Posted By: Shagz Pulse Code asked the obvious question - "Why can't I make acid lines on my iPhone?" - and decided they should be responsible for answering it. I give you the DB-303 Digital Bass Line Synthesizer for the Apple iPhone/iTouch, a rather faithful emulation of the seminal Roland TB-303. They'll emulate a TB-303 on *anything* these days. Why don't they have one running on my microwave?! Scions of the Rave Era! Captains of Industry! I demand acid with my pizza pop!
Gig Reminder: Everybody's a DJ @Disgraceland, Feb 14thPosted By: Shagz Just a quick reminder, if you're not going out with your significant other this saturday night, or if you're *looking* for a significant other, or if you couldn't care less about the others, significant or not, let me suggest an alternative! :) I'll be dropping beats at Disgraceland (965 Bloor West, Toronto) for Everybody's a DJ, a monthly jam that gives 16 djs 20 mins each to rock for the people. Amateurs and pros alike will be on the ones and twos, bringing a broad mix of beats. I'll be spinning at 10pm, along with fellow djs Vijay (11pm) and Dynamite Chris (11:20pm). Complete list and more details on the Facebook event page.
New Abelton Warping Service launchedPosted By: Shagz For those of you who use Ableton for djing, a new track warping service at WarpingAbleton.com has been launched to help save you time. Personally, I kinda think Ableton is cheating if you're a DJ. That's not to say Ableton's not cool and a totally useful tool. I just don't know if we should be using the word "DJ" when referring to someone who's not working to match tempos and is, in effect, just dropping 3-5 min long beat locked samples over top of each other. Thoughts?
Spinning @Everyone's a DJ, Feb 14th + March Break DJ Camp @Off CentrePosted By: Shagz Just a head's up, I'll be spinning at Everyone's A DJ, a monthly party at Disgraceland (965 Bloor St. West, Toronto) that features a hodge podge of musical tastes and talents. The conceit is that indeed, everyone can be a dj, and the night sets out to prove it by inviting anyone and everyone to sign up for a 20 min set. The schedule is currently being finalized, so I don't know what time I'll be dropping in, but it'll either be early (10pm) or late (1am), I'll post back here once I know. Also, if you're looking for a quick, crash course in djing, The Off Centre dj school is offering a March Break DJ Camp, Match 16th to the 20th, 2009. 5 days, from 1 - 4pm, teaching you the basics in mixing, scratching and dj culture! If this sounds interesting to you, check the site for more details and how to register. Classes are limited to 8 people, so get in there early!
