"Heart of the City" Tomorrow Night!Posted By: Shagz
And on a different note, Beats.to is back!! Not quite in the same shape and form as before, but it's the start of something good. :) Also, Push the Button Vol 3 is a featured mix for November! Check out all the other mixes by local TO talent here.

Heart of the CityPosted By: Shagz
It's shaping up to be a great party, with special guest Travino coming down from Ottawa to provide some original music along side Dynamite Chris and Circe. Of course, we can't forget the reason why we're having this party...A $5 (or more) donation at the door or $2 off with a canned food donation will help the homeless of Toronto this holidsay season. Food will be donated to the Daily Food Bank and monetary donations to the Out of the Cold program. The party will be going down at the Victory Cafe, 581 Markham, on Dec 3rd at 8pm. Spread the word and we'll see you there on Dec 3rd!
DJ Shagz Monthly Top TenPosted By: Shagz Want to know just what is rocking my socks each month? No? Well, ok...but in case you ever do want to know, there's a handy little "Top Ten" module in the right hand nav there that will contain the info you're looking for. :) This month's update is heavily stacked in favour of this new drum 'n bass act that I got exposed to called Pendulum. Bloody excellent stuff. At the top is Streamline, a very melodic but tough track that, to me, has Hybrid/BT-style harmonies and a chorus that just won't get out of your head. Follow that with Slam, which is an anthemic hip hop/rock inspired cruncher with sci-fi samples. This tune will get your attention from the get go and is sure to make people go ape within the first opening notes. Red hot. I need to hear this on a kicking sound system. Finish it off with the Voodoo People remix and you've got a trio of awesome tunes from these Pendulum dudes. The rest of the Top Ten deserves your attention too. Rocket from Braund Reynolds was the tune on the breakbeat scene (and beyond) as a promo earlier this year and it had an official (and legal) release last month. Cross the Line by Elite Force is a top shelf tech-breaks track from the soundtrack for Wipeout XL Pure, probably the best one from the game. Stuck in a Wind Up is a throw back to the Motown/Northern Soul sound of yesteryear, and Move Over Daddy is a skanky ska ditty that bops along nicely, both sounding as fresh and as relevant today as anything else on this list. Spider Eyes from Scandanavian breakbeat apostle Ugress is a cheeky re-envisioning of the Spider-Man Theme. We follow that with Dutch duo Kraack and Smaack's sexy house choon Keep Me Home and lastly, the undeniably funk of Fort Knox Five's remix of Ain't it Funky by A Skillz & Krafty Kuts. Look for all these releases and more at finer record stores. PS - Part 2 of my Film Fest Reviews is coming soon, I've just been dragging my butt on the last movie. Then I've got part 3 and I'm done. Why it's taken me this long (the Film Fest was in September!) I don't know. :P
New party in the works...Posted By: Shagz EDIT: The party has a new date!! Dec 3rd is the new date, one week earlier than the original date. Update your calendars! Just a head's up to Toronto locals, and for those of you who are afar and might be in the area in December, we've got a new party coming up on Dec 10, 8pm-ish, @ The Victory Cafe. Some of the details are still being hashed out, but we have the location (The Vic), the cause (One of the local Out of the Cold and Food Bank programs) and the entertainment sorted. We'll have Dynamite Chris and Circe back again, and if you were at the Breast Cancer Fundraiser, you know how these guys can rock it. We'll also have a special guest DJ/artist, Travino (formerly 1/2 of Random Sound recording artist Space Ace), all the way down from Ottawa to spin some fresh blunted beats 'n breaks. Check out his site for some free music downloads to get a taste. More info to come as we plan things, but it's already shaping up to be a great jam! Put it in your calendar and keep it open.
